To play the game, you and your opponents each take on the role of a different wealthy passenger aboard the Orient Express. You must work together to collect cards that will enable you to travel from Paris to Istanbul, while also avoiding traps and catching up to the front of the train.

The Goal
The goal of Orient Express is to score as many points as possible by travelling between Paris and Istanbul, as well as completing other tasks along the way. You can score points in several ways, including by:
- Collecting sets of coloured cards
- Completing Destination Tickets * Being the first player to reach Istanbul * Avoiding Traps * Catching up with the Front of the Train
Setup
To set up Orient Express, first place the map board in the middle of the table. Then, each player chooses a character tile and places it in one of the six coloured circles on the map board. Finally, shuffle all of the cards together and place them face down next tothe map board. This forms the draw deck for the game.
Next, each player takes 5 passengers (3 white, 1 green, 1 red), 4 locomotives (1 blue, 1 yellow), 6 sets of destination tickets (2 each of 3 different colours), 3 Progress Tokens (1 each black, yellow & red), 1 TrainSHARE Token and 2 action tokens. The players should then keep all these components separate from their character tile and locomotives – these will not be used until later in the game.Each player begins with 7 coins. The Banker begins with 7 coins also, but these are not shared with any other players.Finally, place all ofthe Traps (4 brown cubes) on spaces numbered '5'on the map board.These represent sabotage attempts that have been made on sectionsof track between Paris and Istanbul: if a player lands on oneof these spaces during their turn, they must take a Trap cube and resolve its effect immediately.The Banker takes 2 Coins fromthe bankand sets them aside to start scoring atthe end ofthe game).
